Syrian Refugee Relocation

By | Press Release | No Comments

Have you heard? Your family is about to get bigger…

You may not know, but in 2015 the UK government committed to resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees through the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS). Those in dire need of medical attention, survivors of torture, and women and children at risk were to be prioritised in this scheme. The most vulnerable Syrian asylum seekers would be brought over to the UK to be re-housed and essentially, to re-start their lives.

Why are we telling you this?

It is with great honour that we finally announce that TFGLM (Task Force Green Lane Masjid) is sponsoring a Syrian family through this scheme!

Over the years, TFGLM has consistently provided basic aid to Syrian refugees in the form of food, shelter and clothing. But this time, we wanted to do something more. When we came to learn that we could support a family coming over to the UK and help them rebuild their lives, we jumped at the opportunity.

While we rejoice, we must also reflect upon the reality of our Syrian brothers and sisters’ lives and experiences. Alhamdulillah, we live in safety and comfort. We can scarcely imagine what it must feel like to wake up with a destroyed home, murdered family members and absolutely nowhere to go.

The traumas of war run deep

The traumas of war run deep, and for this reason, we wish to invest long-term into the future of this precious family. We believe it is an absolute honour to be in a position to serve our brothers and sisters in such a meaningful way. Through this sponsorship, we hope to re-ignite their hope, facilitate their healing, and help them to rebuild their once vivid dreams.

Very soon now, our first Syrian family will be arriving in the UK. We are honoured that they will become part of our incredible community. This is all very exciting, and of course, we all look forward to welcoming them to their new home. However at the moment we have a house for them, but we need your help to transform it into a home.

The house needs decorating and is unfurnished and we need to come together to decorate this house, purchase furniture, arrange a delicious welcome dinner and sincerely show our new family that we are delighted to welcome them.

Let’s make this family a part of our family!

Turkey Update

By | Press Release | No Comments

We visited Turkey in April 2017 for a field update on our Syrian Bread Project. We met with our primary suppliers in Northern Turkey and logistics partners to ensure overseas operations are being effectively implemented. We also identified and short listed a number of sites for our Syrian Orphanage which is due to open shortly.
