Sudan Malnourishment Project

After our success in Yemen and Ethopia, we are now launching a malnutrition appeal to help those affected in Sudan!

The situation in Sudan is an urgent humanitarian crisis that requires immediate action. Fighting in Sudan has resulted in devastating consequences for civilians. Needs in the country across all clusters were already at an all-time high, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces on 15 April 2023.

Since then, over 5.4 million people have been internally displaced across the country. Many others have been cut off from access to basic services in Khartoum, Darfur and Kordofan states. Prices of food commodities, when available, continue to soar. The protection of civilians remains a key concern, with reports of increased sexual and gender-based violence as well as reports of family separation and child recruitment. Access to health continues to be hampered by the ongoing conflict. Health facilities lack sufficient staff and supplies and are barely functional in some areas.

Unfortunately, in these conflicts, it is the children who suffer the most. The UN’s Hunger Hotspots report highlights over 43 million people in 38 countries across the globe are now at risk of famine or a food crisis, unless they receive immediate life-saving support.

Plumpy’Nut® is used to treat severe acute malnutrition in young children. Only three sachets a day for six to eight weeks can be all it takes to save a child’s life. In times of famine, drought, or conflict, Plumpy’Nut® is a true lifesaver.

It costs just £156 to save six children’s lives.

As Muslims, it is our duty to help those in need. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever helps his brother in his time of need, Allah will be there in his time of need” (Hadith, Muslim).

Product Description

The UN’s Hunger Hotspots report highlights over 43 million people in 38 countries across the globe are now at risk of famine or a food crisis, unless they receive immediate life-saving support. Sudan is one of these countries.

Almost half of global child deaths are linked to malnutrition and one in five children around the world suffer from wasting, which means they have a low weight for their height. There is a desperate need to invest in nutrition interventions that have lifelong effects.

The solution to save these children’s lives is simple. We are using a paste called Plumpy’Nut®, also known as Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food.

It’s a high-energy peanut paste containing sugar, vegetable oil and skimmed milk powder, and enriched with vitamins and minerals.
