Urgent Earthquake Appeal: Afghanistan Needs Your Help
In the early hours of Sunday 31st August 2025, a devastating 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, claiming the lives of more than 800 people and injuring thousands. This is the deadliest earthquake to hit Afghanistan in 30 years.
As of 6th Sep 2025, the confirmed death toll surpassed 2,200, with approximately 3,600 people injured
More than 6,700 to 8,000 homes have been destroyed or severely damaged, and hundreds of villages flattened.
So far, approximately 500,000 people are estimated to be affected, over half of them children;
As the search for survivors continues, the scale of the destruction is becoming heartbreakingly clear. Villages across Kunar and neighbouring provinces have been all but wiped out, with landslides blocking access to some of the worst-affected areas. Many communities remain cut off, relying on rescue teams to reach them on foot or by helicopter.
Families were caught off guard in their sleep as buildings crumbled around them. Children recall the horror of waking up to collapsing walls and chaos. With each hour, the death toll rises, and the need for immediate support becomes more urgent.
Taskforce GLM is on the ground.
Our emergency response team is working around the clock to provide life-saving aid in the hardest-hit areas of Kunar province. We are delivering urgent medical care, including maternal and child health services, treating injuries, supporting nutrition, and addressing psychological trauma.
